Optometric Vision Therapy to help improve visual abilities.
Optometric vision therapy, sometimes called neurocognitive therapy, perceptual therapy, visual training or VT, is a part of optometric care devoted to developing, improving, and enhancing people's visual performance. Vision therapy can benefit people of all ages.
If you have been told you have a "lazy eye", otherwise known as amblyopia or "crossed or wall eyes", otherwise known as strabismus, vision therapy may be very beneficial for you. Using carefully selected procedures, specific to your vision needs, you can gain better understanding and use of your two eyes together, at any age. Glasses or contact lenses may be necessary, as well.
If you don't enjoy reading, lose your place, reread lines, fall asleep when reading or have trouble comprehending what you read, you may have vision challenges at close distances preventing you from being the best learner you can be. A program that may include eyeglasses, vision therapy and home support procedures will likely help you improve your ability to use your eyes up close, which may make reading much easier.
If you have suffered head trauma through stroke, accident or concussion, you may not be able to track well anymore. You may be more light sensitive than you have in the past. Some people in this situation, see double or become sick to their stomach easily. An optometrist like Dr. Munzel, will evaluate you and may prescribe special glasses to help you begin to recover. The glasses may contain prism or partial occlusion. Vision therapy may help you regain your ability to use your eyes as a team.
Over several decades, behavioral optometrists have developed and used vision therapy - in combination with appropriate, judiciously selected lenses - to:
•Prevent vision and eye problems from developing
•Develop the visual skills needed to achieve more efficiently at work, school, or play
•Enhance functioning on tasks demanding sustained visual effort
•Remediate or compensate for vision and eye problems which have already developed
Through vision therapy, people are able to develop more efficient visual performance.
